A cask strength Barbados single blend from Foursquare finished in Moscatel casks, fourteen years old, with black-muscat dark fruit, caramel and dark chocolate over polished oak, powerful and rewarding at 61%.
Description
Foursquare ECS XXVII Equidem is part of the ECS range, Richard Seale's limited annual run that has become a reference for aged Caribbean rum. It is a single blended rum from one distillery, the Bajan marriage of double-retort pot still and column still spirit, distilled in 2010 and bottled at fourteen years and full strength in Foursquare's no-additives, no-added-sugar tradition.
The defining touch is a Moscatel cask influence, which layers rich black-muscat dark fruit over the elegant Foursquare frame: caramel and dark chocolate on the nose, then dried and dark berry fruit, caramel and cocoa through a woody, spiced, tannic finish. The dark fruit comes from the wine cask rather than any dosage, so the rum stays dry and transparent. Tropical ageing gives real depth in fourteen years, and at 61% it is powerful, creamy and long, rewarding patience and a drop of water for drinkers who enjoy bold bourbon-meets-wine-cask Foursquare.
