An unaged white Worthy Park from Ferroni, this leans vegetal and earthy with a chocolate edge and bright red fruits, a softer, higher strength entry into Jamaican pot still at an unsweetened 57%.
Description
Worthy Park is the clean single estate of St. Catherine, and Ferroni's La Dame Jeanne bottling presents it as a white, unaged rum straight from the double retort pot still. The result is a gentle introduction to Jamaican pot still character, more vegetal and earthy than the loud, fruity funk many expect.
The spirit is unsweetened and bottled at 57%, with an aroma of chocolate, earth, grass and vegetal notes. The palate is the surprise, turning fruity with red fruits, violet and apricot, and the finish keeps that red fruit alongside clove and cinnamon. It is a softer, more herbaceous style than classic Worthy Park or Hampden, which divides opinion, some find the vegetal character unusual for Jamaica. For the rum curious it is a manageable step into pot still at higher strength, versatile in mixed drinks or for casual sipping.
