A single cask 26 Year Old Enmore finished in Armagnac, a lighter continental-style take at 49.3% with coconut, caramel, dried fruit and herbs, more wine-cask side project than dense classic Demerara.
Description
Flensburg Rum Company, with Wu Dram Clan, bottled this 1998 Enmore from the EHP marque and the wooden Coffey still, the last of its kind. The twist here is the Armagnac cask, an unusual continental-style finish that takes the rum well away from the dense, dark Demerara template.
Matured long and finished in Armagnac, it is nose-driven and softer than expected: coconut, dried fruit, caramel, citrus and herbs lead, then the palate turns lighter, drier and more brandy-like, finishing on vanilla, herbs and coffee. Bottled at 49.3%, it reads thinner and more wine-influenced than a benchmark Enmore, with the coconut and Armagnac character dominating. This is best approached as an offbeat experiment for drinkers who already know the still well and want to see it bent in a different direction, rather than as a definitive example.
