A navy-style Caribbean blend bottled at 46.2 percent with no added sugar, leaning on spicy caramel, milk chocolate and toasted wood before a tropical-fruit lift, soft enough to sip yet built to hold its own in a classic cocktail.
Description
Black Tot is Elixir Distillers of London's modern take on the navy ration, and this 2025 edition gathers molasses rums from across the Caribbean into a darker, comforting house style. It carries no age statement and sits at 46.2 percent, a step up in strength from the everyday entry blends without straying into full-proof territory, which is much of its appeal as a daily pour.
The profile runs to caramel sweetness, milk chocolate and toasted, faintly roasted wood, with apricot and pineapple turning up as it opens and a young-oak edge on the finish. It is bottled unsweetened, so the sweetness reads as cask and molasses rather than dosage, and the result is rounder and a touch fruitier than the heavier 2019 release. Easy neat, it slips just as happily into a daiquiri or a long mixed drink.
