Description
Eigashima Shuzo's White Oak range draws on single malt production at the historic Akashi distillery in Hyogo prefecture, which has held Japan's oldest whisky licence since 1919. This 10 Years Old was distilled in 2008 and bottled in 2018 as a single cask, cask strength release at 60%, matured throughout in Oloroso sherry wood and selected for the Belgian market.
A full decade in Oloroso produces the most developed expression in the White Oak cask strength series: rich dried fruit, fig, dark chocolate and warming spice sit atop a structure of oak tannin, with a long finish that balances sweetness and grip. At 60% the whisky carries its intensity with authority, and the decade-long relationship between Eigashima's clean distillate and the sherry wood is fully evident in both its complexity and its length.
