A 7 Year Old Venezuelan column-still rum from La Maison du Rhum by French house Dugas, distilled at Destilerias Unidas from vintage 2016 and matured in ex-bourbon oak, bottled at a firmer 47%.
Description
La Maison du Rhum is the travelling range from French distributor Dugas, picking single-origin rums from across the cane-spirit world. This entry draws on Venezuela, distilled at Destilerias Unidas, the column-still operation also linked to Diplomatico and Botucal, from a 2016 vintage. Venezuelan rum in this mould is typically smooth and dessert-leaning, with vanilla, honey and caramel. At seven tropical years in ex-bourbon oak and a sturdier 47%, this should keep that soft core while the higher proof adds backbone and a little more spice. The firmer strength makes it more of a sipper with grip than a gentle forty-percent pour. Sweetness is not disclosed, so expect a rounded rather than dry profile.
