A 24 Year Old Uitvlugt carrying a Port Mourant marque at 46.6%, waxy and resinous with banana, leather and a peaty, whisky-like edge over green tea, anise and a hay-dry finish, a single port cask from Dram Mor.
Description
Dram Mor bottled this 1997 Demerara as a single port cask, a 24 Year Old Uitvlugt distillate carrying a Port Mourant style marque at a gentle 46.6%. Aged in cooler Europe, this long-matured Guyanese has taken on an unusually waxy, almost Scotch-like character, the kind of bottle that could fool you into thinking you were nosing a whisky at first.
The nose opens fantastically with green tea, jasmine, aniseed and a peaty smoke that drops away to reveal banana and sugar, and the palate is waxy and dry, resiny wood and leather over peat, with citrus and sour cherry on the edges. The finish runs dry and nutty with tobacco, tea and hay. The port cask sits quietly behind a profile dominated by herbal, estery depth and that whisky-like character. This is a delicate, dry and resinous old Demerara that crosses easily into Scotch territory, woody and layered without weight. One for drinkers who enjoy the leaner, more austere side of aged Guyana.
