Description
Dom Benedictine is a herbal liqueur from Fecamp in Normandy, built on a recipe first formulated in the 16th century by Benedictine monks who combined their knowledge of medicinal plants with the art of distillation. Twenty seven herbs and spices are macerated and distilled in copper stills, then matured in oak for a soft, harmonious character, bottled at 40%.
The nose is complex with honey, cinnamon, nutmeg, saffron and herbs over a subtle vanilla, the palate full bodied and spicy with honey, caramelised sugar, herbs, orange peel and a hint of liquorice, closing long and gently spiced with a fine herbal bitterness. Behind the bar it adds honeyed warmth, aromatic spice and sweetness, which makes it a fine modifier in stirred drinks and a classic digestif. It harmonises with dark chocolate, mature cheese and desserts such as creme brulee, and lifts whisky and brandy based serves. Pour it neat after dinner, or stir a measure into a spirit forward drink for honeyed depth.
