An 18 Year Old Foursquare single cask bottled by Distilia for Bar 1802, pouring roasted coconut, praline, dark chocolate and polished oak at a serious 59.7%, unsweetened and powerful yet kept in balance.
Description
Foursquare, the Richard Seale distillery at Four Roads in St Philip, is the critics' darling of Barbados, working a double-retort pot still alongside a twin-column Coffey still and bottling with a strict no-additives stance. This single cask from the 2006 vintage was selected by Distilia for Bar 1802, aged 18 years and offered at full cask strength of 59.7% with no sugar added.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak, it shows the classic Bajan blend of rich pot and clean column distillate, here pushed toward roasted coconut, caramel and praline with dark chocolate depth and a dry, woody backbone. The strength is high but well integrated, the fruit sitting in the background while oak and roast lead. For drinkers who already enjoy mature Foursquare and bourbon-leaning rum, this barrel offers extra concentration and toasted richness while staying balanced and seamless across nose, palate and finish.
