Diplomatico, sold in some markets as Botucal, is one of Venezuela's defining names, and this Single Vintage 2013 shows the brand's signature soft, dessert-leaning house style. Venezuela sits at the smooth, sweet end of the Spanish category, and this is an easy first step into the more polished side of rum, a gentle bottle for sipping or gifting.
The make blends column and pot still spirit from molasses, matured ten years in ex-bourbon wood. The nose offers vanilla, caramel, dried fruit and chocolate, the palate is caramel, wood, dried fruit and a clear sweetness, and the finish carries cocoa, barrel and a bourbon edge. At 43% the alcohol is very well integrated, smooth and low on burn.
