Diplomático / Botucal Chancellor (Ron Extra Antiguo)

Diplomático, sold as Botucal in some markets, is one of Venezuela's best known houses, made by Destilerías Unidas in a smooth, dessert leaning style. The Chancellor sits at the upper end of the range and unusually leans on pot still spirit for added weight, though the molasses base keeps it within the soft Spanish tradition.

This is a sweetened rum, and it wears that richness openly rather than pretending to be dry. Fresh, woody and spiced aromas with a leather note lead into an oily palate of ripe peaches and orange, before a finish of spice, wood, orange and roasted oak. The pot still input gives more body than the lighter rons of the region, while the dosage rounds everything into a plush, full texture. At 47% it has both strength and sweetness, a generous, indulgent sipper for drinkers who enjoy the rich Diplomático house signature.
