Description
Oldman Spirits bottled this Diamond under the Flensburg Rum Company name from the 2010 vintage, a fifteen year old Port Mourant single cask. Port Mourant runs off the double wooden pot still, Guyana's heaviest and most distinctive, with its salty, herbal, aniseed signature, here matured to a dry profile.
Molasses based, finished in port and unsweetened, it shows the PM mark clearly. The nose is somewhat subdued with wet wood, cinnamon, herbs and floral notes, the palate turns roasted, woody, herbal and peppery with olives and candied fruit, and a faint sweetness emerges with time. The finish brings anise, dried fruit and a salty edge. At 61.6 percent it carries plenty of intensity, a solid, honest Port Mourant from the middle of the field for drinkers who enjoy the still's salty, herbal character at full strength.
