Description
Part of Midleton's Dair Ghaelach project, which matures single pot still whiskey in casks coopered from individual native Irish oak trees. This edition comes from Tree 6 of Kilranelagh Wood in Co. Wicklow, distilled by Irish Distillers in Co. Cork and released in 2023 for the Irish market at cask strength.
The whiskey is first matured in American bourbon barrels, then finished in virgin Irish oak hogsheads whose tighter grain drives a fuller, spicier profile. Expect clove and baking spice, dark chocolate and a resinous, sappy oak note over the peppery, oily pot still core of malted and unmalted barley. Bottled undiluted at 56.8%, it shows the bolder, tannic edge that native Irish oak lends to Midleton's classic triple distilled spirit.
