Description
One of the Kilranelagh Wood bottlings in Midleton's Dair Ghaelach series, which finishes single pot still whiskey in casks made from single native Irish oak trees. The wood here comes from Tree 5, the spirit from Irish Distillers in Co. Cork, released in 2023 at cask strength for the Irish market.
After a first maturation in American bourbon oak, the whiskey is finished in a virgin Irish oak hogshead, whose tight grain drives a bolder, more tannic character. Clove, dark chocolate and baking spice sit alongside a resinous, sappy oak note, with the oily, peppery pot still core holding underneath. Bottled without dilution at 57.5%, it is the most robust expression of the classic Midleton mash.
