Description
An unusual single malt entry in Midleton's Dair Ghaelach series, which finishes whiskey in casks made from individual native Irish oak trees. This bottling draws on Tree 3 of Kilranelagh Wood in Co. Wicklow, distilled by Irish Distillers in Co. Cork from wholly malted barley and released in 2023 at cask strength for the Irish market.
After maturation in American bourbon casks, the spirit is finished in virgin Irish oak hogsheads, whose dense grain adds grip and spice. The result marries honeyed malt and orchard fruit with clove, dark chocolate and a sappy, resinous oak note. Bottled undiluted at 57.1%, it trades the pot still prickle for a rounder single malt sweetness while keeping the bold, tannic signature that Irish oak gives the range.
