Description
Turf Mór is Irish for big turf, and the name is a statement of intent. This Small Batch Collection release, bottled for Germany in 2010 in a run of 20,000 bottles, is Connemara with the peating turned up, the most heavily smoked expression in the range from Cooley in Co. Louth, the distillery that restored peat to Irish whiskey.
Matured in ex-bourbon casks with a sherry cask finish, and bottled at a full cask strength 58.2%, it pours on coal gas smoke, oily malt and vanilla, with fresh and dried fruit surfacing as the peat settles. The sherry wood adds a raisined undertow beneath the turf. Undiluted and unapologetic, it is the Connemara for drinkers who wish Ireland peated like the islands.
