Part of Cooley's Small Batch Collection, this Connemara Sherry Finish was bottled in 2009 in a run of 20,000 bottles for the Dutch market. The Co. Louth distillery took its peated single malt from ex-bourbon casks and gave it a finishing period in Oloroso sherry wood, one of the earlier sherried treatments of the smoked house style.
The Oloroso finish drapes dried fruit, walnut and a darker sweetness over Connemara's heather smoke and honeyed malt, the classic pairing of peat and sherry translated into an Irish accent. Bottled at 46%, above the standard strength, it keeps the smoke articulate through the richer wood. Double distilled, softly smoky and quietly sherried, it shows the range stretching beyond bourbon oak.
