Description
The Distillers Edition adds a sherry cask dimension to Connemara, the peated single malt of the Cooley distillery in Co. Louth. Bottled in 2014 for the European market, it marries ex-bourbon maturation with Oloroso sherry wood, a step up in richness from the standard bottling and delivered at a slightly higher 43%.
The sherry influence folds dried fruit, honey and a nutty, faintly oily depth into the heather smoke, the Oloroso's fig and walnut sitting comfortably alongside the turf, while citrus keeps the edges bright. It remains recognisably Connemara, double distilled and gently smoky, but dressed in darker wood, an easy recommendation for drinkers who like their peat with a sherried lining.
