Description
A 22 Years Old Connemara is a rarity, peated Irish malt aged far beyond the range's usual span. Cooley in Co. Louth released this edition in 2014, an outturn of 3,996 bottles for the Irish market drawn from first fill ex-bourbon barrels, among the oldest statements the brand has ever carried.
Two decades and more in first fill bourbon wood turn the smoke into something faint and autumnal, a leafy bonfire memory behind honey, citrus and dried hay. First fill casks keep the vanilla generous and the oak firm without tipping into dryness. Bottled at 46%, it shows what long ageing does to Irish peat, rounding it into a gentleness that younger Connemara only hints at.
