Distilled in 1991, only a few years after Cooley fired its stills, this is peated single malt from the Co. Louth distillery's earliest stock, bottled as a single cask under the Connemara name. Cask V96/1 129 was emptied in 2007 at sixteen years old for the Belgian market, one of the scatter of continental single casks through which early Connemara found its audience.

Sixteen years in ex-bourbon wood and bottling at a natural 50.2% leave the whiskey undiluted and intact, typically heather smoke woven through honey, waxy malt and orchard fruit in the young distillery's emerging house style. Cask strength Connemara distilled in the early 1990s is a rare sight now, and casks like this capture peated Irish malt at the very start of its revival.
