Description
Connemara is Cooley's peated single malt, the whiskey that returned smoke to Ireland when the Co. Louth distillery revived the style in the years after its 1987 founding. This 12 Years Old sits at the aged end of the core range, giving the peat time to knit into the malt rather than sit on top of it, and this bottling was destined for the European market.
Twelve years in ex-bourbon casks turn the heather smoke soft and sweet, folding it into honey, vanilla and cooked orchard fruit with a trace of new oak spice. Double distilled like all Cooley spirit, it keeps a fuller texture than most Irish malt. Bottled at 40%, it is Connemara at its most settled, the smoke a warm background glow rather than a blaze.
