Galley Head is Clonakilty's approachable blended Irish whiskey, named after the lighthouse that stands near the distillery's maturation warehouse on the west Cork coast. This is the 2023 bottling, a marriage of sourced Irish grain and malt handled by the young Co. Cork distillery while its own spirit matures.
The blend rests in ex-bourbon casks with a portion drawn from rhum agricole wood, an unusual touch that adds a grassy, cane sugar lift to the toffee and vanilla of the American oak. Bottled at 40%, it keeps to fresh fruit and honey, light bodied and gentle, an everyday pour with a saline whisper from the Atlantic.
