Clonakilty Distillery opened on Co. Cork's Atlantic coast in 2019, so a 13 Years Old single grain like this is sourced Irish stock, matured and finished by the family in their ocean side warehouse while their own pot still whiskey comes of age. Batch 003 is a run of 1,500 bottles for the European market.
Column distilled grain whiskey takes gently to wood, and thirteen years in Ex-Bourbon casks built a mellow core of toffee, banana and coconut before a rum cask finish layered in demerara sugar and dried tropical fruit. Bottled at 46%, it stays light on its feet, a soft, sweet dram with a faint sea air freshness from the coastal warehouse.
