Description
Distilled in 2000 and bottled in 2020 after two decades of maturation, this Chita Sakura Cask Finish is an unusual release from Suntory's grain distillery on the Chita peninsula in Aichi Prefecture. A 500ml global bottling, it departs from the standard Chita presentation by employing a sakura wood finish and presenting the spirit at cask strength.
The base maturation in Ex-Bourbon casks over 20 years builds the expected Chita sweetness and vanilla depth, while the sakura finish, a distinctively Japanese wood choice with cherry-blossom associations, adds a subtle floral and faintly spiced dimension. At 50% cask strength, the texture is richer than the house standard, bringing out a fuller oak structure alongside the grain's inherent softness.
