Description
The 2024 edition of La Maison du Whisky's annual Paris Edition collaboration with Chichibu marks a departure from the purely Ex-Bourbon cask profile of previous years, adding red wine cask maturation to the vatting. Chichibu, Venture Whisky's Saitama distillery, has always run an adventurous cask programme, and the combination here is designed to add a fruity, vinous dimension to the distillery's characteristically bright single malt character.
Bottled at cask strength 50.5% for the French market, the recorded honey note is amplified by the interplay of bourbon-barrel sweetness and the softer berry and dried-fruit tones that red wine wood contributes. Ichiro Akuto's distillery, founded in 2008, consistently draws on its wide inventory of cask types to create annual editions that differ meaningfully from year to year, and the 2024 Paris Edition represents a deliberate step toward a fuller, more fruit-layered profile.
