Chichibu's annual Paris Edition, bottled by La Maison du Whisky for the French market, has become a reliable marker of the Saitama distillery's evolution since the series began in the 2010s. Venture Whisky, under founder Ichiro Akuto, runs a wide cask programme across a small batch operation, and the Paris Edition draws from Ex-Bourbon stocks to produce an accessible, fruit-led expression of the Ichiro's Malt single malt range.
At 49.5% cask strength, the 2023 release sits at the softer end of the Paris Edition proof range, which allows the distillery's characteristic freshness to come through without the heat of higher-proof years. Ex-Bourbon maturation in this context typically yields orchard fruit, vanilla, honey and gentle wood spice, framed by the clean, lively new make that Chichibu's small pot stills are known for in Saitama.
