The 2021 Paris Edition Ichiro's Malt from Chichibu is a no age statement single malt from Venture Whisky's Saitama distillery, released under La Maison du Whisky's annual Paris Edition partnership for the French market. It continues a series that annually profiles Chichibu's progress and the expressive range possible within a single distillery's stock.
Matured in Ex-Bourbon casks at cask strength 53.5%, this release shows the lively, youthful side of the distillery: fresh fruit and citrus are in the foreground, with hay-like grassy notes, honey and a trace of new wood adding complexity. A faint sweaty cereal note, not uncommon in young Chichibu, grounds the fruitiness. The higher proof preserves the vibrancy of the new make, and Ex-Bourbon's influence is felt in the clean sweet vanilla underlay rather than any heavy oak dominance.
