Description
The Malt Dream Cask is a single cask expression from Chichibu distillery in Saitama, distilled in 2009 and held in Ex-Bourbon wood until 2020. Eleven years of ageing in the Japanese climate, with its warm summers and cold winters cycling through the cask, pushes the maturation considerably further than most Chichibu releases from this vintage, and the result is a noticeably richer and more structured spirit.
Long Ex-Bourbon maturation at Chichibu deepens the orchard-fruit base into dried stone fruit, butterscotch and a vanilla-touched oak spice, and at eleven years the development shows clearly. At 60.9% cask strength the spirit is full-bodied and warming, with the kind of layered complexity that marks this distillery's older single casks from the inaugural 2009 distillation year.
