Description
Chichibu occasionally produces peated spirit at its Saitama distillery, and The Peated is the release that showcases that production. This 2011 vintage was bottled in 2015 at 4 years old for global distribution, under the Ichiro's Malt brand that Venture Whisky uses across its wider range. Unlike most Chichibu single casks, this is a vatted or batch release rather than a single cask, drawing on multiple Ex-Bourbon barrels of peated spirit.
The flavour notes of fresh fruit, greenhouse, honey, new wood and smoke outline the character at four years: the smoke is present and active, layered over the distillery's brighter fruit-forward character, while the new wood note signals the young age. Ex-Bourbon casks provide the primary maturation, adding vanilla and soft sweetness that moderates the peat without suppressing it. At 62.5% cask strength, The Peated arrives with energy, the smoke integrated but clearly present across this young Saitama malt.
