Description
Distilled at Chichibu in Saitama in 2009 and drawn after three years for the German market, this Ichiro's Malt Port Pipe is an early release in the series from Venture Whisky. Port pipe maturation at such a young age is primarily about the wine cask's influence on the developing new make, and Chichibu's naturally fruit-forward spirit responds to it quickly and clearly.
At three years in port wood the result is bright and direct: red berry fruit, warm chocolate and a gentle sweetness from the wine cask over the distillery's fresh apple and cereal base. At 61% cask strength the release has the vivid, unfiltered quality that characterised Chichibu's early single cask programme, and the port influence is already evident in both the depth of colour and the sweet fruit-led palate.
