Description
This single-cask heavily peated release was distilled at Chichibu in Saitama in 2013 and bottled in 2017 after four years in Ex-Bourbon wood, under the Ichiro's Malt label for the Japanese market. Chichibu, Venture Whisky's production site established by Ichiro Akuto in 2008, distils a small volume of heavily peated malt each year alongside its main unpeated production.
At four years old the Ex-Bourbon cask provides vanilla sweetness and fresh wood structure, but the heavily peated new make asserts itself clearly. Bottled at 62.9% from a single cask, the spirit is raw and powerful, with the peat delivering bonfire and earthy notes that the distillery's typical citrus energy cuts through. The combination is characteristic of young, high-peat Chichibu at cask strength.
