Description
The Chibidaru series from Chichibu's Saitama distillery uses small barrels to accelerate wood contact, a technique that gives younger spirit some of the richness that larger casks take longer to develop. This 2010 vintage vatted expression was bottled in 2014 after four years under the Ichiro's Malt label for global release by Venture Whisky.
Ex-Bourbon wood in a small barrel imparts a concentrated vanilla sweetness, fresh pear and light caramel at this age, with a more pronounced oak structure than standard cask maturation produces at the same point. At 53.5% the spirit sits at full strength, and the small-barrel influence gives it a compact, slightly tighter texture that distinguishes the Chibidaru releases from Chichibu's standard single cask programme.
