Description
Ichiro's Malt is the flagship brand of Chichibu Distillery in Saitama, established by Venture Whisky in 2008 under the direction of Ichiro Akuto. This 9 Years Old was distilled in 2015, matured in French oak and bottled in 2024 at 63% for the Swiss market, representing a cask type that diverges from Chichibu's dominant Ex-Bourbon programme.
French oak brings a different flavour register than the American barrels more typical of Chichibu: floral and spice notes, stone fruit and a subtle dryness from the wood give this single cask a more European character while Chichibu's fruit-forward new make remains the backbone. Nine years of maturation ensures the wood and spirit are well-integrated at 63% cask strength, making this Swiss market release a distinctly calibrated Ichiro's Malt expression.
