Description
Carrying the Ichiro's Malt designation that identifies Chichibu's own-distillery output, this is a 2016 vintage single cask Oloroso sherry release bottled in 2024 at 64.7% for Belgium. Chichibu distillery in Saitama prefecture was founded in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto under the Venture Whisky banner, and the Ichiro's Malt brand spans both the distillery's own-make releases and, in its blended form, world-sourced expressions.
Seven years in an Oloroso sherry cask gives the spirit a rich, raisined depth: expect dried dark fruit, dark chocolate and warming baking spice layered over the fruit-forward new make Chichibu is known for. At 64.7% the bottling is among the stronger in the distillery's single cask library, delivering considerable palate weight and concentration. A small measure of water will open up the sherry-driven fruit and reveal the distillery's underlying brightness.
