Description
Chichibu distillery in Saitama distilled this whisky in 2010 and released it in 2017 as a 7 year old single cask under the Ichiro's Malt brand, the signature range used by founder Ichiro Akuto for Venture Whisky's individual cask releases. The bottling was directed to Norway and comes at cask strength.
A single Oloroso cask governed the entire maturation, working dried fruit, fig, walnut oil and warm spice into the spirit over seven years. The sherry wood's sweetness is natural contrast to Chichibu's typically bright and fruit-forward new make, producing a whisky where the orchard character of the distillery sits beneath a richer, darker mantle. At 59.6% the balance is bold but composed, giving the Oloroso influence room to express itself without losing the underlying freshness that defines the house.
