Description
Cask number 6234 is a 2016 vintage Chichibu single malt drawn from an Ex-Bourbon barrel, selected by La Maison du Whisky and bottled in 2025 at 63.6% for France. Chichibu distillery in Saitama prefecture is Venture Whisky's craft flagship, founded in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto, and the LMDW partnership has made Chichibu one of the most widely followed Japanese single malts in the French market.
At nine years old, Ex-Bourbon maturation has had time to build a generous scaffold of vanilla, coconut and soft wood spice around the spirit, and the noted yeasty character adds a distinctive bread-dough and lees-influenced dimension that sets this cask apart from the distillery's cleaner bottlings. The interplay between the cereally new make, the yeast-derived complexity and the American oak sweetness gives a textured, slightly wild profile. At 63.6% cask strength the bottling is direct and energetic.
