Description
Chichibu distillery in Saitama was founded in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto and has produced a wide variety of single-cask Ex-Bourbon expressions over its lifespan, with each year's vintage yielding individual casks of distinct character. Cask 3804 from the 2014 vintage was held for nine years before La Maison du Whisky selected it for France, bottled at 57.5% in 2023.
Nine years in an Ex-Bourbon barrel has allowed Chichibu's naturally fruit-forward new make to develop fully within the American oak framework. Fresh fruit is the leading note, bright and vivid, supported by vanilla and soft cereal sweetness from the bourbon seasoning. At 57.5%, the bottling sits between the highest-intensity cask-strength releases and diluted expressions, delivering the cask's full character with enough natural integration to present cleanly. The finish is moderately long and clean, carrying the fruit and wood together to a gentle close.
