Description
Chichibu distillery in Saitama was founded in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto, who brought both the Hanyu legacy and a new vision for small-batch Japanese single malt to the Kanto hills. Over the years the distillery has released hundreds of individual casks through specialist retailers worldwide, cask 9664 being one of a series directed to La Maison du Whisky for France.
Nine years in an Ex-Bourbon barrel represent a relatively extended maturation for Chichibu, where many sought-after casks are released younger. The additional time in American oak has allowed the spirit's bright new-make character to settle into a richer, more integrated profile, with vanilla and caramel in the foreground and the distillery's typical stone fruit and barley sweetness providing depth. Bottled without reduction at 61%, it carries the full weight of the cask while retaining the precision and clarity that define the Chichibu house style.
