Description
Chichibu's willingness to use less common cask types from its earliest years set the distillery apart in Japan's craft whisky scene. This is cask number 1371, a 2011 vintage distilled at the Venture Whisky site in Saitama and bottled in 2015 at 4 years old for La Maison du Whisky in France, one of the distillery's key international partners.
The maturation vessel is a Madeira cask, which brings dried fruit, brown sugar, fig and a distinctive wine-like honey quality to the spirit. Even at four years, Madeira wood works quickly on a vibrant new make such as Chichibu's, threading its dried fruit and warm sweetness into the distillery's bright orchard character. At 61.9% cask strength, the bottling arrives full and expressive, with the Madeira influence as the dominant frame.
