Chichibu distillery, founded in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto in Saitama prefecture, has established a following among independent bottlers worldwide for its consistently expressive new make and wide cask programme. This bottling was distilled in 2014, matured for ten years in a single Ex-Bourbon cask, and selected by Elixir Distillers for release in Belgium in 2025.
A decade in American oak Ex-Bourbon wood has drawn out layers that go beyond the typical Chichibu fruit profile: the flavour notes here run from milk chocolate and fresh citrus through stone fruit to a medicinal edge that adds complexity and depth. At 54.5% cask strength the spirit is approachable yet structured. The ten-year age statement marks a milestone for a distillery whose oldest releases have only recently entered double figures.
