Description
Chairman's Reserve Vintage 2011 is an eleven year old St. Lucia rum from St. Lucia Distillers, blending pot and column still spirit and forming the latest in the distillery's vintage project series. Distilled in 2011 and bottled at 46.8%, it is certified unsweetened and aims for balance and character rather than easy sweetness.
Matured in ex-bourbon casks, it opens with ripe banana, pear and raisin, and the palate is fruity and full bodied with a sweet edge over peppery oak, while the finish brings coconut, tobacco, leather and a touch of apple and light smoke. The St. Lucia house style shows in the interplay of fruit and spice from the combined stills, and without added sugar the complexity comes from the spirit and cask rather than dosage. It is a well rounded, characterful sipper that rewards a little time in the glass.
