An overproof Ghanaian cane-juice white from Compagnie des Indes at 50% that drinks like a fruit brandy, packed with mirabelle plum, cherry, marzipan and fresh grass, unsweetened and built for serious cocktails.
Description
CDI Mid West Distillery Great Whites Overproof 2020 is a cane-juice white from the Mid West distillery in Ghana, bottled by Compagnie des Indes, the terroir-led French house known for its broad-origin range. Drawn from 2020 and made from fresh sugarcane juice on a pot still, it is bottled unsweetened at an overproof 50%, placing it firmly in agricole-style rather than rhum agricole territory.
Pot distillation and the fresh-cane base give it a vivid, fruit-brandy character that sets it apart from a classic grassy blanc. Fruit schnapps, sour cherry and marzipan lead the nose, then a palate of sugarcane, mirabelle plum and cherry that finishes on yellow fruit, marzipan and a glue-like ester edge. Bright, fruity and unsweetened, it reads almost like a kirsch or plum eau-de-vie at times. At 50% it has the punch for serious cocktails, shining neat for the curious and driving daiquiris and tiki-style drinks with real character.
