A fruity, wine influenced Mauritius single cask with peach, apricot, mint and dark chocolate over clean molasses, finished in Armagnac and bottled by Compagnie des Indes unsweetened at cask strength 53.1%.
Description
Compagnie des Indes is a French independent bottler founded by Florent Beuchet in 2014, prized for sharp single cask selection and an origin led, transparent approach. This is a single cask of Grays rum from Mauritius, the well rated Perola linked source, distilled in 2009 and given an Armagnac finish. As a CDI single cask it is presented naturally, with no added sugar or colouring, at cask strength.
Thirteen years of ageing on clean, molasses based Mauritian spirit gives a bright, fruity profile, peach and apricot with a clear streak of mint and menthol and a backbone of dark chocolate. The Armagnac cask adds a distinct wine influence and a soft, grapey lift that sets it apart from a straight ex-bourbon ageing. At 53.1% it is concentrated and best approached as a focused sipper, with the fruit, herbal freshness and cask character all clearly drawn. A rewarding, characterful Mauritius rum for drinkers who enjoy fruity, wine finished bottlings and want genuine cask strength intensity without any sweetening.
