Description
The Vintage Malt Whisky Co Ltd bottled this Cameronbridge single grain matured to 30 year old distilled in 1992, from cask 115066 and bottled at 49.5%. Only 240 bottles were released. Set in Fife, Cameronbridge has made grain whisky since 1824, the oldest plant of its kind in Scotland. Water comes from Loch Leven, the mash from wheat, the spirit drawn off three column stills.
Distilled continuously in column stills from wheat, on Loch Leven water, giving a clean, mellow grain whisky. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood adding coconut and vanilla. Around twenty five years the grain gains a fuller toffee and an oily weight. Grain whisky like this rewards long maturation, the wood adding most of the character. Since Port Dundas closed in 2010, it is Diageo's only wholly owned grain distillery. As well as whisky, it makes the neutral spirit for Gordon's and Tanqueray gin and Smirnoff vodka.
At 49.5%, undiluted, it is deep and sweet. The ex-Bourbon gives sweet vanilla and a buttery coconut. It is soft and deep, the grain and oak well matched. Toffee and vanilla see out a long finish. This is the grain behind Cameron Brig and Haig Club.
