Description
Whiskymax selected this Cameronbridge, a 23 year old release distilled in 1995, from cask 6449 and bottled at 56%. A release of 310 bottles. Set in Fife, Cameronbridge has made grain whisky since 1824, the oldest plant of its kind in Scotland. As well as grain whisky, it makes the neutral spirit for Gordon's and Tanqueray gin and Smirnoff vodka.
Distilled continuously in column stills from wheat, on Loch Leven water, giving a clean, mellow grain whisky. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, with vanilla and crème brûlée. By this age the sweet spirit rounds into vanilla, coconut and a soft oil. Decades turn a light spirit into something rich, oily and tropical. Since Port Dundas closed in 2010, it is Diageo's only wholly owned grain distillery. As well as whisky, it makes the neutral spirit for Gordon's and Tanqueray gin and Smirnoff vodka. Its single grain has long been sold as Cameron Brig, and since 2014 as Haig Club.
At a natural 56% it is full and oily. The ex-Bourbon gives a sweet, oily vanilla. It is soft and deep, the grain and oak well matched. The finish runs buttery, soft and warm. This is the clean, sweet grain of Cameronbridge.
