Description
From Signatory Vintage comes this Cameronbridge, aged 16 year old distilled in 2009 and bottled at 57.1%. Set in Fife, Cameronbridge has made grain whisky since 1824, the oldest plant of its kind in Scotland. A founding member of the Distillers Company in 1877, it is now Diageo's largest distillery.
Distilled continuously in column stills from wheat, on Loch Leven water, giving a clean, mellow grain whisky. A sherry cask wrapped the sweet grain in dried fruit and a nutty depth. Younger here, it keeps a clean, fresh grain character over light vanilla. Grain whisky like this rewards long maturation, the wood adding most of the character. Its single grain has long been sold as Cameron Brig, and since 2014 as Haig Club. Water comes from Loch Leven, the mash from wheat, the spirit off three column stills. It is among the largest distilleries in Europe, making well over a hundred million litres a year.
Bottled at a cask strength 57.1%, it is rich. The Oloroso brings dried fruit and a nutty depth over the sweet grain. The texture is oily and buttery, the sweetness coating. A warming, sweet finish lingers. This is Cameronbridge's light, sweet single grain.
