Description
Bottled by Signatory Vintage, this Cameronbridge, a 12 year old release distilled in 2012 and bottled at 57.1%. Cameronbridge, in the Kingdom of Fife, is Diageo's largest distillery and the home of Scotch grain whisky. Its single grain has long been sold as Cameron Brig, and since 2014 as Haig Club.
Distilled in column stills for a clean, sweet grain, building the light Cameronbridge grain style. A refill American oak cask held it, building the sweet, oily grain character. At this age the grain is light and sweet, vanilla and toffee to the fore. Maturation in American oak suits the light, sweet grain particularly well. It was the home of continuous distillation in Scotland, making the country's first commercial grain whisky. A founding member of the Distillers Company in 1877, it is now Diageo's largest distillery. Since Port Dundas closed in 2010, it is Diageo's only wholly owned grain distillery. As well as whisky, it makes the neutral spirit for Gordon's and Tanqueray gin and Smirnoff vodka.
At 57.1%, undiluted, it is deep and sweet. The ex-Bourbon gives crème brûlée, coconut and vanilla. Soft toffee and vanilla sit behind the sweetness. A sweet, coconut led finish lingers. This is a Lowland single grain from Fife.
