Description
Bushmills 12 Year Old PX Sherry (The World Wood Series, 46%) is a travel retail focused limited release that takes Bushmills’ clean, triple distilled single malt style and pushes it into a richer, darker lane without losing the distillery’s natural brightness. It was bottled for Global Travel Retail and originally positioned for Asia Pacific duty free, landing in late 2024 as a travel exclusive.
The build is where the difference sits: this whisky starts in 1st fill bourbon casks, then takes on a secondary maturation in a combination of 1st fill and 2nd fill PX sherry casks. That detail matters. The bourbon phase keeps the structure tight, giving you the vanilla, caramel and clean fruit lift, while the PX layer adds the deeper sweetness and weight. Using both 1st and 2nd fill PX lets Bushmills dial in dried fruit richness and chocolate toned depth without smothering the spirit.
On the nose you’re into vanilla, caramel and dried fruit straight away, with that PX signature moving it towards raisin, dark sweetness and a warmer spice profile. The palate is creamy and sweet at first, then builds into fruit weight and richer notes like chocolate and gentle clove, finishing darker and spicier than you’d expect from the core range style. At 46%, it carries real texture and keeps the flavour impact properly defined rather than soft.
