Distilled on 1 March 2011 and bottled on 23 September 2022, this 11 year old single malt from Bushmills was released as part of The Causeway Collection exclusively for the German market. It was matured in a combination of Oloroso sherry and ex bourbon barrels before a finishing period in Banyuls wine casks, then bottled at 46.0 percent ABV with a modest outturn.

Banyuls is a fortified wine from the Roussillon region in southern France, produced primarily from Grenache grown in steep, sun exposed vineyards overlooking the Mediterranean. The wines are typically rich, oxidative and fruit driven, with flavours centred on red berries, dried fruit and cocoa rather than sharp acidity or fresh wine aromatics. When used for finishing, Banyuls casks carry this profile into the wood as a mix of concentrated fruit compounds and gentle tannic weight.

As the whiskey rests in these casks, those elements dissolve into the spirit, deepening fruit character and adding warmth without overwhelming the base profile. The influence shows as red fruit richness and soft dryness rather than overt sweetness or heavy fortified wine markers, allowing the underlying malt and early cask influence to remain clearly defined.

On the nose, the whiskey presents soft red fruit, gentle spice and seasoned oak, with a warmth that reflects the southern French wine influence. The palate is rounded and composed, with berry fruit, light cocoa and mild oak spice sitting comfortably alongside a clean grain core. Bottling at 46.0 percent ABV maintains clarity and shape without pushing alcoholic intensity.

The finish is steady and cohesive, with lingering fruit, spice and a faint drying note from the wine seasoned wood. The overall impression is controlled and integrated, with the Banyuls influence expressed through fruit depth and warmth rather than sweetness alone.
