Description
Distilled on 6 September 2010 and bottled in November 2020, this 10 year old single malt from Bushmills forms part of The Causeway Collection and sits at the more approachable, fruit-led end of the series. It was matured in a combination of Oloroso sherry and ex bourbon casks before a finishing period in Cognac casks, then bottled at 46.0 percent ABV.
By this point in maturation, the spirit has developed sufficient structure while retaining freshness and clarity. The sherry and bourbon casks establish a soft, rounded base of fruit and sweetness, while the Cognac finish adds richness and a polished texture drawn from brandy-seasoned wood rather than overt brandy flavour.
On the nose, the whiskey opens with a creamy fruit profile. Ripe stone fruits, soft berries and light honey notes sit alongside vanilla and gentle spice, giving the aroma a smooth, settled character.
The palate follows the same rounded line. Darker fruit develops alongside caramel, chocolate and almond, with oak spice providing shape without sharpness. The Cognac influence is expressed primarily through texture, lending cohesion and softness rather than distinct brandy notes.
The finish is medium in length and gently drying, with chocolate, nutty tones and residual fruit sweetness carrying through evenly. This is a composed, accessible Causeway release built around integration and ease of drinking rather than intensity or cask statement.
